Accessibility statement

E.K.A.G Apps LTD, which operates heypetsapp.com, is committed to equal access for everyone, including people with disabilities. The site was made accessible under Israel’s Equal Rights for Persons with Disabilities Law (1998) and the Service Accessibility Regulations (2013), following Israeli Standard SI 5568, which is based on WCAG 2.0 level AA; in practice the site is built to WCAG 2.1 level AA.

The accessibility menu

Every page has an accessibility button in the bottom corner (a person in a circle). It opens a menu with: three text sizes, dark or light contrast, grayscale, highlighted links and headings, a readable font, text spacing, a big cursor, a reading guide and a stop for all animations. Your choices are kept in the browser for next time, and “Reset settings” restores the defaults. The menu also opens and closes from the keyboard (Enter and Esc).

What we did

  • Full keyboard navigation (Tab, Enter, Esc) with a clear focus indicator and a “Skip to content” link at the top of every page.
  • A proper heading structure, labelled landmarks and a declared page language for screen readers.
  • Alternative text for every meaningful image; decorative images are skipped by screen readers.
  • Colour contrast at or above the required ratio (at least 4.5:1 for regular text), plus extra contrast modes in the accessibility menu.
  • All animations stop when “Reduce motion” is on in your device settings, and also with “Stop animations” in the accessibility menu or “No animations” in the site menu and at the bottom of every page.
  • The 3D phone on the home page is shown as a still image without WebGL or with animations off; everything in it is also available as text.
  • Videos play only on request, muted by default, with play, pause and sound buttons.
  • The site adapts to phones, tablets and computers, and to browser zoom up to 200% without loss of content.
  • The privacy policy and terms of use are plain text pages with a table of contents.

Known limitations

  • The store buttons (App Store and Google Play) are Apple’s and Google’s official images, with a text description.
  • In the home-page tour, the stops that are not in front of the phone are shown semi-transparent; with “No animations” on, all of them are shown in full.
  • Videos from social media may have no captions; the essential information in them is also on the site as text.

How we tested

The site was checked with automated accessibility tools and by hand with the keyboard, in the current version of Chrome on a computer and a phone. We recommend an up-to-date browser.
